Philip Glanville elected as Labour candidate for Mayor

Councillor Philip Glanville, acting Mayor of Hackney, has been elected as the Labour Party candidate for Mayor of Hackney following the departure of Jules Pipe to become deputy to Sadiq Khan at County Hall.

The mayoral election will take place in September.

Glanville has a long history of campaigning for improved housing in Hackney and his selection has pleased all groups within the party.

Jonathon McShane who campaigned against him was quick with his congratulations. As was Jon Burke, another rival for the nomination:

On Saturday morning Anntionette Bramble, who also stood against him, and Jon Burke were already out campaigning for Glanville.
